My name is Murphee McDowell and I have the honor of being Delta Alpha’s Director of Community Service for 2018! My wonderful assistant, Emma Hall, has been my right hand woman while planning these events and has been an overall joy to be around.Together, we will plan and organize our philanthropy events for the year.
Delta Alpha has the privilege of supporting the East Tennessee chapter of Make-A-Wish. This organization grants the wishes of children with life threatening illnesses to enrich human experience with hope, strength, and joy. We love knowing that the money we raise through our philanthropy events helps to grant wishes of children right here in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas.
Since Chi Omega established Make-A-Wish as their national philanthropy in 2001, Delta Alpha has helped to send Wish Kids to Atlantis, Disney World, Hawaii, and to swim with sharks in the Bahamas. We are so blessed to be able to work as closely as we do with the local chapter of Make-A-Wish. We do this by volunteering at the Wish Bowl, working fundraisers, lending a hand at their office, and by being Wish Granters.
This spring, Delta Alpha hosted our first ever Cards For A Cause event! The event was brand new to our chapter and we are ecstatic to announce we raised $9,542 for Make-A-Wish. Chi Omega is so thankful for our wonderful Chattanooga community and other UTC organizations for helping us make this such a success.
In Delta Alpha, we love traditions! One of our favorites is our annual Chili Cook-Off for Make-A-Wish. The Chili Cook-Off brings UTC and the Chattanooga community together for an afternoon of chili, music and fun! Most recently, at our 11th Annual Chili Cook-Off held at the Chattanooga Lookout Stadium, we raised $15,000 thanks to the support of other UTC organizations and the generous community we live in!
Philanthropy is the core of Chi Omega and is something that every sister holds dear to their heart. I cannot wait to see what 2018 has instore for our chapter!
